"Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding." Proverbs 23:22-23
Wisdom is only truly wisdom when wisdom is practiced and applied.
Key lessons which give guidance in the turbulent seas of living are lessons which are CAUGHT more than TAUGHT in the home!
Solomon wrote, "When I was a son to my father, tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, then he taught me and said to me, 'Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live..." Proverbs 4:3-4
Later in Solomon's life and his father well into his sunset years, he received this instruction from David, "Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man. And keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the law of Moses, that you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn..." 2 Kings 2:2-3
Taking his father's insightful counsel to heart, Solomon, given a dream opportunity to request of and receive from God ANYTHING he would petition, he responded, "You have made me Your servant king in place of my father David (HUGE sandals to fill!), yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in...so give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil." And God's response to him was, "I have given you a wise and discerning heart...I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor...And if you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days." 2 Kings 3
But, wisdom is only truly wisdom when wisdom is practiced and applied.
Regrettably the narrative does not end there. "When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father...And Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not follow the Lord fully, as David his father..." 2 Kings 11
Wisdom is only truly wisdom when wisdom is practiced and applied.
"The time that Solomon reigned...was forty years. And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David, and his son Rehoboam reigned in his place." 2 Kings 11
The first leadership decision of this third generation ruler had all the markings of wisdom..."he consulted with the elder who had served his father Solomon..." But his subsequent behavior sealed the devastation of the once invincible kingdom. "He forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him, and consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served him..." 2 Kings 12:6-8
Again, wisdom is only truly wisdom when wisdom is practiced and applied.
Key lessons which give guidance in the turbulent seas of living are lessons which are CAUGHT more than TAUGHT in the home!
Bible"When all has been accomplished, what those who know you best will recall is not what you accomplished with your life, but how you accomplished what you accomplished."
